The Great Wall of China

Construction of the wall began in the 7th century B.C. by seperate Chinese dynasties and remained un-joined until 221 B.C. At that time, the Qin Dynasty began the unification/renovation process that continued through the end of the Ming Dynasty in the mid 1600s.

According to popular belief, The Great Wall of China is the only man-made object viewable from the Moon. Unfortunately, this is not true as several man-made objects (Golden Gate Bridge, Hoover Dam, Egyptian Pyramids, etc.) are viewable with a low-power telescope but no man-made objects are viewable with the naked eye.

Nevertheless, the experience was worth the 2-hour bus ride that took us to the Badaling portion of the wall. Man, what a climb!!
